I know we usually post Mondays and Thursdays but due to some technical difficulties we had to push back posting until today. Thanks for understanding!
We're posting this right near the end of Fire Prevention Week. This week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire which caused loads of destruction and the loss of human lives. They have had a different theme every year, and this year's theme is Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month. You can learn more by checking out the NFPA website.
At this point you must be wondering how I plan to relate this back to rulebooks. No we won't be during a rulebook review for Flash Point: Fire Rescue (though we seriously considered it). To start, we're encouraging you all to take their Fire Prevention Quiz and see where you score as we were shocked that we only managed to get a 58% when taking it and we're stepping things up in our home because of it. I don't want to be a burnt mustache!
Now for the cool part. A lot of writing rulebooks is in proper grammar. The NFPA has made a cool resource to not only talk about fire prevention and safety but that also helps review grammar rules with young kids. How cool is that? You can find it and everything you need to know how to use it here. Plus they even have an app that can talk about fire safety while teaching phonics!
But I have a lesson for the adults as well! You can actually learn a lot about good instruction writing from fire safety.
