Today we'll be looking at the Kickstarter game Yardmaster! This game won an Ion Award for Best Light Game under it's original name Payload. You can learn more about the game by watching the video above or by clicking the picture on the side. Susan and I sat down to the game to give it a try and see how well the prototype rules look. If you'd like to follow along, you can see the rules here. All aboard and let's get started! | |
Organization and Layout: The rules are presented in a column layout which works just fine for the game. I was able to read the rulebook while learning the game which is always good to see! Nothing feels out of place, and everything looks attractive as well. A pleasure to look at.
Clarity: Everything was clear and made for easy reading and getting to the game much more quickly.
Graphics: There example pictures were numerous and helpful! Another cool thing to mention was using different colors of fonts to highlight important terms and sections which really drew my eyes to the information. There was a good use of bold and and italics as well to make sure you read important pieces of information.
Depth: The rulebook does a good job in covering what makes 2 player games different, who wins if players exhaust both the railcar draw pile and arrival yard pile and no one has enough points to win, and much more. When something came up I could always find how to resolve it.
Writing: I couldn't find any typos or grammar errors, and everything had that professional feel you are looking for in a rulebook. I have to mention again how helpful the use of font color, bold, and italics really made reading the rules that much better!
