We seems to be on a kick of doing Kickstarters lately! Today we'll be taking a look at Super Tooth! Super Tooth is a dinosaur themed set collection game in which you try to collect sets of plant eating dinosaurs to turn them in for Cretaceous Coins. You can learn more about the game by watching the video above or clicking the picture to the side. If you'd like to see the rulebook in PDF form to follow along check it out here. Organization and Layout: The organization is a bit wonky. Things that should be side bars are information placed right on top of pages, the credits section is in the middle of the rules, and the win condition is kinda crammed into the bottom of a page under some diagrams where I might miss it. You can still read the rulebook and follow along easily enough, however the rulebook would look much better with some changes.
Clarity: I didn't find myself confused at any point while reading the rulebook which is especially good since this game looks to be themed for a younger audience. A job well done on this front.
Graphics: The rulebook has some simple diagrams that work quite well. Showing the symbol for each type of cards while explaining them in the rules really makes the types of cards sink in. My only large complaint is the “Diagram of a Turn”. The rules are already written quite well and this diagram makes things look much more complicated then they really are. This could easily be eliminated and with some good layout choices make the rulebook stronger.
Depth: The rulebook covers every edge case possible and explains them clearly.
Writing: I didn't catch and typos or grammar errors which is always good! Everything is presented in the kind of professional manner you expect with rulebooks and I can't really find fluff anywhere.
But as a mustache, Susan knows much more about dinosaurs and rulebooks then I can even imagine! On the Susan Rating Scale this game gets:
Susan's Explanation: I hate to give this such a low rating as there is such a solid foundation for the rulebook here but the layout of the rulebook kind of forces me to. You can still easily learn the rules from it, but it could be SO much better! It's sad that all the assets are there along with the potential for it to look like this.
